| LIVERPOOL'S LIVER BUILDING |
Liverpool is situated on the North-west coast of England, along side the River Mersey which sweeps out to the Irish Sea. It was founded by King John in the year 1207, previously known as Liverpul.
Liverpool's famous landmark is the Liver Building, the foundation stone for the building was laid on 11th of May 1908 and opened its doors on the 11th of July 1911. Designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas, as an office for the 6,000 employees of the Royal Liver Group.
The building overlooks the River Mersey and forms one of the ‘Three Graces’ along with the Port of Liverpool Building and the Cunard Building.
On top sit two Liver birds, named Bella and Bertie. Bella looks out to sea to ensure the ships arrive safely into port and Bertie keeps his watchful eye over the city to protect the people of Liverpool. Legend has it that if Bella and Bertie ever turn and face each other, Liverpool will no longer exist. As this is unlikely to happen Liverpool will walk on, long into the future.
